Nary Manivong – “Dressed” Documentary

by cubiclejot on September 18, 2009

Since this is Fashion Week, it is only natural that I blog about fashion right…..this coming from a guy that wears white socks with his black shoes.  So instead of giving you tips about the best color combo that would compliment your brown eyes,  I’ll instead bring to your attention the Documentary titled “Dressed”, a OneRock Moving Pictures production directed by David Swajeski.  Dressed is a documentary about a Lao-American fashion designer, Nary Manivong, who defies the odds of a broken childhood and homelessness to follow his dream of showing his collection at New York’s Fashion Week and launching his brand.  A sneak peak of the documentary was recently shown to New York’s tastemakers and press at the uber-chic Soho House members’ club and hotel in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District in New York City. It received a lot of good feedback.  I don’t believe there has been a set date for showings to the public yet, but keep on the look out.

I love that this showcases that we as Lao people do not have to follow the typical predefined career paths  that our parents and society want us to follow.  We can live outside the box. Nary Manivong, living LAOd!
