R.I.P. General Vang Pao/Charges Dropped In Alleged Laotian Coup Plot

General Vang Pao, a formal general in the Royal Army of Laos died Thursday night in Clovis, Calif., at the age of 81 following a battle with pneumonia.

The general led Hmong guerrillas in their CIA-backed battle against communist Lao and Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. He was credited with resettling tens of thousands of Hmong from the hills of Laos into America when they faced persecution after the communists took over Laos in 1975.

In recent news General Vang Pao made headlines when he was charged in an initial indictment in 2007 for alleged Laotian coup plot, prosecutors dropped him from the case in 2009. Now Four days after Vang Pao’s death all charges have been dropped for the remaining 11 defendants in the case.
